The powerful intensity of the of the crimson sky produced by the setting sun and reflected on the glass like surface of Ministikwan Lake brought some stillness back into the day.
What is it about the big box stores like Super Store, Wal-Mart, Costco or Canadian Tire just to name a few. These corporations lure you to their establishments with the promise of a great price and once you have loaded up with far more than you really need you pull up the check out counter where there is only one till operating and that’s more times than not by a trainee, you are so far back in the line you are blocking the regular shopping traffic not yet standing in the line, which is getting increasingly frustrated having to fight their way past you each time you move forward.
The reality is we are like FROGS in a POT waiting to purchase all the crap coming into Canada by the ocean going container freighters loaded down with forty foot sea-cans from China. It is obvious these corporations earn huge margins of profit on their products then increase the profits even more by not hiring enough staff to sell it to you, hence you wait, as if you are being conditioned to wait.
No longer can you find the Ma and Pop store which catered to you, provided you with service, new who you were, called you by name, catered to your needs and possibly poured you a drink at Christmas time and made every effort for you to not have to wait, I believe those days have gone.
Our complacency to wait in line may also be related to the way Oil Companies arbitrarily and blatantly stick it to us every long weekend by conveniently raising the price on Friday. We complain do our governments address these are unfair trade practices no they do not because this would effect the bottom line on the Tax collection side, each and every time our complaints are swept under the rug. Today there is an apparent shortage of gasoline so you now wait in line to purchase it when it’s available. We as Canadians need to stand up collectively and send a strong message to our leaders and corporate heads, we need to display our disgust, stop being complacent and perhaps organize an action which both understand.
We are the tax payer in the end each one of us flips the bill it does not matter if it’s the corporate CEO or the Government employee who receives an obscene pension settlement which you and I ultimately pay for. Imagine if these ridiculas settlements went towards our medical system perhaps then we would not have to die waiting in line for a procedure or specialist.
The most you have to wait for at Ministikwan Lake is for the sun to go down and a new day to dawn.
