The lake would have been better hosts - July 1
Ministikwan Lake would have been a likely spot to hold the G8 or G20.
The first requirement in the whole affair would have been to use some common sense, perhaps just a little, something we as Canadians usually commend ourselves at being exemplary at.
We all know there seems to be a bit of a shortage of this around Ottawa, which in this event everyone seemed to have the blinders on, to the tune of millions of hard earned dollars you and I have to come up with.
Just think about it here at Ministikwan Lake all we would need is a large floating conference room set in the middle of the lake. Who would have access? There would not be a worry about protesters because no one would be able to navigate the Goat Trail. So that would not be a great concern and if it were the Hells Angeles could be hired (at a decent price) to protect the perimeter and I am sure that with all the subsidies that Bombardier has been given they would willingly supply all the quads and jet skis required to execute security, at not cost.
There would be no worry about the loss of revenue around the lake. For the most part the bulk of patrons are here.
Lloydminster would experience the most economic benefit especially at the 4 or 5 Tim Horton’s as all the security would need their daily fix.
The First Nations could have a Ghost Dance where the drums would be sounding for three straight days, this may have the same effect on the participants as the Hi Tech sirens the Toronto police are using on that city’s protesters.
Not only that but we have the state of the art military just up the street in Cold Lake which would quite adequately protect the sky’s or perhaps they could have included this event in the NATO Maple Flag Exercises, where some of the participant countries would be involved, less expense? When that is not enough we have Camp Wainwright to the south and the famous Patricia Division in Edmonton, not to mention the RCMP training center in Regina.
When you think about it if the event were to be held at Ministikwan Lake with all the money which was spent we could have rebuilt the Goat trail with actual ash fault and still come well under budget.
