Ministikwan Lake has
been my home for more
than 30 years and my
wife’s since 1955, when
her family moved off
the homestead with all
their possessions loaded
on a stone boat, being
pulled by an already
old Farmall H tractor.
They moved into
what I call a Lucille
Ball, Desi Arnaz type
trailer, the ones with the
rounded back.
While her father built
the first house, he also
built some of the first
wooden boats Ministikwan
Lake had seen.
This was the start
of a business we
still operate today,
where many people
have come and gone
from leaving impressions
we have rekindled
over the years and now
some of those events,
stories and lore I will
share with my writings
called “Ministikwan
Lake Lore and Perhaps
More.”
Some voted for
“Triple P, Papa Paul’s
Program,” and the latter
won out. The idea is to
bring you a story each
week retelling events
that have happened
over the years, trying
not to bore you.
For those who are
unaware, Ministikwan
Lake has been a destination
point for many
people from Lloydminster
and the surrounding
area.
For the longest time
there wasn’t much of a
road, even that may be
an exaggeration, a goat
trail would be more
like it and today there
are times when it’s not
much better.
Like years ago if it
happened to rain, you
were pulled in by the
tractor.
Fishing, camping
and lake side recreation
attracted people
to the lake, some of
the original customers
and their families still
frequent the lake.
Today there is a new
generation of campers
with new stories that
in time may turn into
“Ministikwan Lore.”
My hope is that you will
enjoy what is to come.
