Ministikwan Lake Lore and More by Paul Pospisil RETURN INDEX NEXT STORY

At Ministikwan Lake, there was no ball dropped, steamers blown or glockenspiel played as Father Time moved along bringing us into the New Year. What you may have found were candlelight’s of the gods glistening and glimmering in a clear sky allowing you an unobstructed visual into the heavens above. A view of the constellations or perhaps a satellite streaking north to south like a gladiator in his chariot, where no city lights washed out the Milky Way or the clear and pristine view of infinity.
The Island Lake Cowboy Society hosted this year’s round dance to bring in the New Year. While the Lake side cabin residents held a community get together to celebrate the coming of the New Year.
This year there was no tobogganing, snowmobiling or midnight wiener roasts for us. We joined our adopted family Katherine and Manfed, Paul and Amy in Calgary for a birthday celebration and the christening of their new home.
Forty people gathered to share in the celebrations. The universal language of music and voice along with some Ministikwan grown sweat grass were used to cleanse and purify the new home. Several of Katherine’s friends from Calgary’s Philharmonic Orchestra entertained the gathering from the music room with the piano, trumpet, harp and stand up bass an absolutely incredible combination. Not mention the outstanding sound reverberating through the home. Manfred an acoustical engineer and designer of his home did a magnificent job with every detail. The sounds of the music and the voice of the actor were a true testament of that.
We capped off the stroke of midnight with the traditional singing of “Auld Lang Syne”.
For those who are unaware “Auld Lang Syne” while most commonly sung at New Years is however sung in Scotland on January 25th Robbie Burns night. So you can take your cup of kindness share in your love and friendship and celibate singing Auld Lang Syne twice before the first month of the New Year is over.
May you be blessed with Love and Happiness in the New Year.
